Inspired by true events, this handsomely photographed and acted drama ultimately comments on one woman’s attempts at gaining self reliance and independence. Polyxeni is the story of an orphaned girl, adopted in 1955 by a family of Greeks in Istanbul. They offer her a powerful family name and ensure her devotion. She embarks on a new life and a future that looks bright. When her adoptive father dies in 1970, the now adult Polyxeni is groomed to become a member of the Grecian elite and the heir to his significant estate. But her blossoming romance with local man Kerem ignites a vicious battle for the spoils of her late father’s fortune that threatens more than just Polyxeni’s financial wellbeing.
Selected as Greece's official entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy Awards, Polyxeni is stunning look back at Greek aristocracy in 1970s Istanbul and an intimate portrait of a woman who simply wants to follow her dreams.
